The Before and After -of my kitchen!

I was ready for a change in my kitchen. I painted my kitchen red when we moved in 7 years ago! Sharing the before ...

AND NOW THE AFTER!! Changed a few things around in the process of the paint job! Ralph Lauren paint - Natural Canvas.
I reworked this area- added a few of my silver collectibles, and brought out the fall plates.
Fresh Basil drying on an old towel rack that belonged to my Grandmother!
Silver tray filled with spices, seasonings, and my favorite TEA! I love the coffee prints, the coffee clock and the Sanka container filled with coffee.. reminds me of my Grandmother.

The window view of the kitchen.. don't you love the new color?? So light and airy!
I removed everything off the top of the shelves~ moved this locker bin of plates and the rooster to the foot of the newly painted chalkboard. The new chalkboard- love it- I had a list of many items - LOML erased - no more projects until Super Bowl is over!! The red phone is one of my prized finds... I have about five of these throughout the house... Ma Bell (AT&T)has been good to me and my family for 19 years so I am pretty proud of all my junky phone finds!
I had these bread boxes above the cabinets but moved them off the top of the shelves and grounded them on the floor with my junky find picnic basket! and then ...
My inspiration for the following came from My Sweet Savannah rate her space here. I had wanted a new look above my cabinets and when I saw this - I was in Love with it! Stop by and see her blog, or find her on rooms on Rate My Space on HGTV.

AND then for all of you that are wondering -- did I really paint the red wall with the rooster... NO!! No! She is a part of the family and I love that wall with all my heart! I hope you enjoyed the little redo! Thanks for popping by- You all inspire me- Would love to hear your comments! Valarie

OOO, Val...it looks STUNNING !! I so love the new color. I still like red walls but this new color seems to have really opened the room up and made it all a lot lighter. And, I AM TOTALLY in love with the words..where in the world did you get them? I'm pretty much going to do this as soon as i can come up with those words. Just fabulous..and words and numbers are so "in" right now. it really updated your sweet kitchen. I am excited!!!! Gotta go back and look at all of it again...:)

I am loving that new RL color. And those words...well, considering I only know how to turn the knob on the microwave, I am clueless what those words mean! haha ~Mindy

Question~ Where did I get the words? I had Sign A Rama do my words, they are a franchise. I measured my space, they drew out a plan. You can install them or they can... Have them install... Trust ME!!

Junky phone? No way, I've had that red one on the wall in my kitchen for 33 years, ever since Ma Bell installed it!

Very nice makeover.

Everything looks awesome!!! Great job!!! Your wall words are amazing! Absolutely love them!!!! I always loved your red kitchen but I also love the new lighter kitchen! So glad you kept the adorable rooster wall! It's so cute & so one-of-a-kind! I just received some wall words I ordered for Big D's weight room (my treadmill's in there, too). I'm "decorating" with weight-lifting posters & wall words that I got from WORDSANYWHERE.COM & a customized "Don's Gym" decal complete w/weightlifter, from RIGHTONTHEWALLS.COM--both arrived super-quick! Now, I just have to get up the nerve to actually apply them to the wall!!!--I've never used vinyl lettering before. Please tell me it's easy!! Any tricks I should know about? Thanks, Patti

Hi Valarie,

Your kitchen re-do turned out beautifully!. I used the same color Natural Canvas in my Master Bedroom. I have been working on my bedroom for a month now, the last thing I am waiting for is the custom closet to be designed and installed, we were told it would take three weeks so hopefully by mid Oct.it will be done then I will post it. I am glad you kept the one red wall it's so great with the rooster! and I love red.
Take a look at Jennifer's blog at the Old Painted Cottage. She has posted her home that she and her husband have been working on for the last year, she used RH Natural Canvas through out her home. It's really a pretty color like a coffee latte from Star Bucks (my favorite).
I enjoyed your post today very much. You did a lovey job and it looks perfect!.
Take care and enjoy you day,
Elizabeth

Hey Valarie,

Where did you get the stencils for the lettering? I went to the Rate My Space link, but must have missed where she said she got them. Did read she hand painted them, but she HAD to have used a stencil of some sort?

I would even prefer they be stick-on! lol

They're really cute, and so is your place! :)

OMG! I just love the red phone, if you decide to get rid of it or have another one and want to trade for another old phone, let me know. My husband and I have been in the phone business for over 30 years and have a few we have collected over theyears but not a red one like this. XO MARY

I liked your kitchen before but the change is very refreshing. Love the rooster wall and I'm so glad you didn't change it.

Oh yes - adore the phone. I can remember trying to win radio contests on a rotary phone when I was a kid in the 70s. Trying to make it go faster by forcing it back around. Sweet memories! But our phone was boring beige - love the red!

Valerie,
I love everything and especially that phone. That is the exact one we had from 1965 on when Mom and Dad built our house. Great memories!

Stopping by from My Romantic Home! Outstanding job! I really like how crisp and clean it turned out. I have been debating about paint in my kitchen. Thinking of brown or green but possibly a khaki brown would work!! Thanks for some inspiration!
