1963 Vintage Trailer Make Over....

This has been a year of make overs, do overs, for us at the blue cottage! 
If you follow my blog you know I am the proud owner of a 63 Silver Streak Vintage trailer.. 
She is an adorable trailer for decor purposes, she knocks it out of the park when we travel with her.  Her challenges are no cabinet space,  no microwave, a leaky kitchen faucet, needs more storage and a new refrigerator...  
So with a little help from our friends - we begin the demo yesterday...

Serendipity Gypsy had a wash and polish today.. we are getting here all spiffed up & ready to roll to parent weekend at University of Arkansas this weekend!  She will be parked among many let's just say very LARGE RV's, and motor coach buses!  Think we will fit in with our little vintage love!!  

They polished and polished and cleaned the windows sparkling!!

"She Travels Well: Valarie Kerby"

The silver beauty is going to have an article written about her in the "local townsquare buzz"  today. The writer Michele, adorable and amazing... read the sweet story below!! Thank you Michele! 

What do you get when you take a Lone Star lady, mix in a generous amount of gypsy spirit, an impeccable sense of whimsical style, and a ’63 Silver Streak trailer?  Answer:  Getaway Gal #78. 

How about if you add in a camera, a lap-top and the ability to spin a tale?  Answer:  The Trailer Gal, author of the popular “Glimpse of My World” blog. 

So what’s the answer if  you throw in a crisp blue cottage, with a backyard brimming with vintage eye-candy, outdoor living spaces where you want to, you know, live, blooming flowers, and something beautiful to look at no matter where you turn your gaze?  Answer:  McKinney’s Valarie Kerby, aka Getaway Gal#78 et al.

“I’m a gypsy at heart,” says Kerby, as she graciously escorts TSB on a guided tour of her newest love, The Serendipity Gypsy, a 1963 Silver Streak trailer, which she with husband Tim have lovingly restored. 

“She’s small, but she’s very sassy,” says Kerby, “When we bought her, she was a nightmare and a mess.  We gutted most of it, but kept everything original.  I just love her.  I got her in October and have taken her out several times.”

With the Serendipity Gypsy securely hitched behind her, Kerby likes to hit the road with the Texas-based all girls camping club, The Getaway Gals. 

The Getaway Gals Camping Club was founded in January 2011 by Dixie Taylor of Athens, Texas.  The no-dues club plans girls only trips every four to five weeks per year with the primary focus being fun, food, and hanging out with the girls.  Many of the trips are in conjunction with festivals or special events, giving the ladies and opportunity to do more than sit around the campfire if the mood strikes. 

“We take trips all over Texas,” says Kerby, “We’re just a bunch of girls from Texas and Oklahoma who like to go!”

Even when parked in the driveway of her cottage nestled in the heart of McKinney’s Historic District,  Kerby enjoys her little gypsy hut, as she calls it, and apparently, so do others. 

“It all started when we did a photo session with our kids,” says Kerby, “Before long, we received a request from a photographer to use our trailer and backyard for a photo shoot.  Then another photographer called asking.   Now, several photographers have been out.  One even did a whole vintage photo shoot with models.  It was a neat experience.” 

When not on the road with the Getaway Gals or hosting photogs at home, Kerby and the Serendipity Gypsy can be found hitched up and ready to roll, sharing the love with folks having pasture weddings, or doing photo shoots in fields of bluebonnets and wheat fields. 

“She travels well,” says Kerby of the Serendipity Gypsy, “I just love her.”

My guess is the Serendipity Gypsy would say the same.

I'm back....

I POSTED A MESSAGE ON SUNDAY THAT WE WERE LEAVING FOR A GETAWAY! I was soooo excited guess I forgot to hit publish post!! Anyway I am back!! LOML and I had a blast!! Loved Lake Fort Smith! This is our 2nd time there, we normally stay there for parent weekend in October!

We rented a boat so we Tim could fish- and I could bask in the sun!

Vintage Trailer LOVE!!!

This morning worked on the Vintage Silver Streak.... friend was suppose to have a photo shoot here today, however the weather here in Texas is not being so cooperative so hoping for a sunny day next week!!  

These are a few pictures I snapped... Today I am joining the party at Sue loves Cherries. Thought IT would be fun to share the vintage trailer LOVE!! AND if you know anyone in Texas who wants to use her for a photo shoot, a wedding, a cupcake party, girl's night out ... just give me a holla!!

busy week-end!

On Saturday afternoon, showed a new client the historic district.      
and then I showed them this beauty... Also in the district..

Today, I had what we call UPTIME at KW... Waiting on a call to show more beautiful properties ... we have several in the district!!

Then tonight I played house began hanging curtains and putting down cushions in the Silver Streak.. Leaving in 4 days for my first "Sister on the Fly" event!

There are two of these long burlap curtains... ruffle at top is white/black polka dot fabric. LOML did not want me to as he said "girlie it all up" so I used the burlap... This covers the door to the bathroom and there is another one that covers the storage area.

My cushions are made of oilcloth, I used big black white check, mini black white check and black with white polka dots, the tablecloth has roosters and toile on top, checked ruffle. (more leftover fabric I had) and the window on the front of the trailer... more burlap and the crocheted lace on top of the burlap was two pillow shams I bought from Goodwill for $5 bucks.  The polka dotted lamp shade I snagged for $1 dollar at a garage sale.  The bread box I moved out of my dining room in the blue cottage to the trailer for some punch, I love the IMAGINE on the ledge over the window (another item from the blue cottage) found at Hobby Lobby I think .. I love it...

We have the wood flooring to install however since we are having a banquette built for the front of the trailer - will have to pull up floor at that time so making do for now.  Looked for a really cool rug or a floor canvas .. either looked awesome and not affordable at all, or really cheap... so will wait on the wood floor.  Thank goodness the cushion sizes will stay the same! Upholstery is expensive!!!

Working on the kitchen area tomorrow.. will share more then..

What did you do this week-end? Thrift, Plant fall flowers, decorate for fall? or Halloween?

she is getting all spruced up!!!

Today, the new "Serendipity Gypsy" got a make-over on the inside. It took them 3 hours to tape everything off and then they did an amazing spray job on her. The pictures do not do her justice...

oh, how i love the new high gloss bright white on all her interior walls

Put the logo on the back, front and side of trailer..... This was the original style logo back in 63!

You are probably wondering why I did not repaint the ebony cabinets... well, the guy who remodeled the Shasta is building a banquette, so we wanted to do all the staining at same time as well as the new floor.

she's HomE!!

This past week-end LOML and I went to the RV show. LOML liked the  RPOD because of practicality, easy towing, brand new etc... no, not me!

Then we looked at this one - Called an A-liner.... no, not me either!!




I was still in love with this.... she needed some work.. but oh the potential she has!

After much conversation and compromise  LOML said "get the dang trailer if you want it!!" 

HERE SHE IS now .. Home here in North Texas! She is so shiny - I love her front awning.. this is where the dining area is. She is 17 ft long..    

First thing I did was take down the very dark brown curtains. Tomorrow I will start the cleaning   scrubbing the inside walls, interior cabinets, line the cabinets with shelf paper. My goal is to paint the cabinets an off white, the interior walls are aluminium - not sure why they were painted white. I found a guy in town who will strip off paint and bring back aluminium and shine. Probably will not start this project until mid November when it is really cool outside and we have TImE on our hands! For now I am having the cushions redone... selected 4 fabrics of black & white.. and have curtains made out of burlap.  I will pull in some of my black & white junk from the blue cottage and we will be all set to go.  Sisters on the Fly trip Oct 7th and parent weekend at University of Arkansas week after.. so we are just cleaning her up and making a few changes before we take her out!
